Discovering Surigao del Sur’s Hidden Beauty

When talking of tourist spot in Mindanao, the places that come into mind usually are Davao, Cagayan de Oro City, Dakak in Dapitan City and Siargao (because of its big waves that surfing enthusiasts crave). People rarely talk about some of the beautiful places that Surigao del Sur (SDS) has. These places have not been advertized as much as those from the more-popular places and commonly known cities in Mindanao.

But the lack of popularity does not necessarily mean these places from SDS pales in comparison when it comes to attractiveness and beauty.

Just last week while in work assignment to Caraga for the Rapid FITS Monitoring I got the chance to discover some of Surigao’s hidden beauty.

The Enchanted River in Hinatuan, Tinuy-an Falls in Bislig City, White Sand beach in Cagwait and Britanya Islands in San Agustin – these are just some of the places that I got to visit while travelling in Caraga.

The Spectacular Beauty of Enchanted River

Found in Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur the river is formerly known as Hinatuan River, but since the river is said to be wrapped in mystery and enchanted supernatural event thus it became known as the enchanted river.

The powerful drops of water from Tinuy-an Falls

Bislig City in Surigao del Sur is home to one of the widest waterfall in the Phillipines, the Tinuy-an Falls. Tinuy-an is a white water curtain that flows in three levels and plunges 55 meters (180 ft) high from the top.

The Boracay-like white sand of Cagwait Beach cove

A beautiful white sand beach cove is one of the treasures that the municipality of Cagwait, Surigao del Sur can be proud of. The beach faces the coast of the Pacific Ocean in the east and Mount Diwata on the west.

The little Islands of Britanya

The municipality of San Agustin in Surigao del Sur boast of a group of island that has the potential to be world-renowned someday. The Britanya group of island has 24 Islands and Islets so beautifully scattered in the waters Lianga Bay.

The province of Surigao del Sur has a rich resource of tourist spots that are not yet very well-known. So if you have the chance to travel to Mindanao don’t forget to include Surigao del Sur into your itinerary. Surely you’ll also have a pleasant surprise after visiting these places.
