President Benigno S. Aquino III and Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala lead the nation in honoring this year’s national winners of the Gawad Saka, or the annual search for outstanding achievers in agriculture and fisheries, in simple ceremonies, December 13, 2011, at Rizal Hall, in Malacañang. 
 
For their respective accomplishments, the 2011 Gawad Saka national winners, composed of 14 individuals and nine groups, will each receive a Presidential citation and trophy, and corresponding cash incentives for individual winners and project grants for group winners, totaling Php 4.25 million.
 

Going Back to Basic Farming: ATI, JICA Hold Forum on Good Practices in Organic Farming

DILIMAN, Quezon City – To be a developed agricultural country, one must go back to the “basics of farming.“
 
This was the assertion during the knowledge sharing forum on Good Practices in Organic Farming focused on Safe Vegetable Promotion Project that was organized by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI).

Saliot Presents e-Extension Program to S&T Community


 
PASAY CITY – Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) Director Asterio P. Saliot presented a paper on the “Current Status and future Directions of the Philippine Agricultural Extension” to the members of the prestigious National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) of the country. Saliot also presented one of the latest programs of the Department of Agriculture, the e-Extension Program for Agriculture and Fisheries, where ATI is the lead implementing agency. 
 
The paper presentation was part of the Round Table Discussion (RTD) on agricultural extension which was held in preparation for the NAST 33rd Annual Scientific meeting in July 2011. Other presenters came from both public and private organizations and shared some insights and learnings based on their experiences in the delivery of their services related to agricultural extension.

Mahigit isang siglo na nga ang lumipas buhat nang itatag ang Kagawaran (tinawag noon na Department of Agriculture and Manufacturing) sa ilalim ng pinakaunang Republika sa Asya na pinamunuan ni Pangulong Emilio Aguinaldo. Sa loob ng panahong iyon, hindi maikakaila ang naging pagsisikap nito na maging totoo sa kanyang pangunahing misyon: Magkaroon ng sapat, abot-kaya at masustanyang pagkain ang bawat pamilyang Pilipino, at lumikha ng matatag at maunlad na kabuhayan sa kanayunan.
