ATI to Host Policy Forum on National Extension Agenda and Programs

DILIMAN, QUEZON CITY -- Pushing for a stronger Extension Agenda and Programs, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) through the Extension Governance and Policy Division will conduct a ‘Policy Forum on Overcoming Extreme Poverty’, where it aims to develop a responsive national extension agenda for the agriculture and fisheries of the country.

Specifically, this activity aims to revitalize the collective energies of Agriculture and Fisheries stakeholders and refocus public attention towards fast-tracking and achieving Millennium Development goals as well as poverty reduction goals and targets, as defined in the Medium-Term Philippine Development Plan (MTPDP) for 2004-2010.

It also intends to provide an avenue where key stakeholders can provide inputs by which a National Extension Agenda and Program can be developed to re-chart the future of agricultural extension sector.

The activity will be participated by the different ATI-Regional Training Centers (RTC) and members of the ATI Management Committee (ManCom).

Highlights of the activity will be the panel discussions on National Agricultural Resources Research and Development Agenda and Programs’ and ‘DA-Agriculture and Fisheries Research and Development Agenda and Programs’ where Dr. Danilo C. Cardenas, Deputy Executive Director for R&D of DOST-Philippine Council on Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCARRD) and Dir. Nicomedes P. Eleazar of Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) will be the speakers respectively. ATI Director Asterio P. Saliot will tackle and talk about the issues and trends in Agriculture and Fisheries Extension.

The Forum will be held on October 28, 2009 at the Segundo C. Serrano Hall of ATI Bldg., Elliptical, Road Diliman, Quezon City. (Benedict C. Natividad)
