Rural Women Gathered for Briefing on Organic Agriculture

DILIMAN, QUEZON CITY--- The Department of Agriculture through the Agricultural Training Institute gathered the key people of rural women’s organizations for a briefing on the latest initiatives of the DA on Organic Agriculture.
The event gathered the regional officers and coordinators of the Home Economics Extension Association of the Philippines (HEEAP) and of the Rural Improvement Clubs (RICs), as well as the retired chiefs of the Home Extension Program of the Department in support to its goal of achieving sustainable agricultural development.
Dubbed as Orientation and Briefing on Organic Agriculture Towards Sustainable Development for RIC and HEEAP, the activity aimed for the 75 participants to identify opportunities and challenges in sustaining the Home Extension Program; organize and develop a more doable programs to sustain their organizations; and more particularly to gain knowledge on the implementation of organic agriculture.  The activity likewise provided a venue for sharing the best practices and difficulties encountered in the implementation of the program and projects in their respective areas and in gaining additional skills in food demonstration and preparation.
Initiated by the ATI-Extension Program and Partnership Division, some food exhibits graced the two-day activity at the ATI Serrano Hall in Diliman, Quezon City on November 29 to 30, 2011. (Beatriz A. Yanga)
