Radio Plugs on e-Learning

To intensify our information drive on the e-Learning program of the Institute and to get more enrollees to our on-line courses, ATI 8 has tapped the Visayas State University's Radio Station DYAC to come up with radio plugs on e-Learning in English, Cebuano and Waray. The plugs will be given for airing to the different radio stations in the region through the Regional Applied Communication Officers of the Visayas Consorium for Agriculture and Resources Program who are handling agri-radio programs.

Meanwhile, Mr. Dennis Boyd R. Baltazar guested DYAC's "Sibya Pamalihug" program on April 30. He was interviewed on the e-Learning program of the institute and the text support service of the Department of Agriculture that is administered by ATI CO. In May, he will have another guesting to discuss more on the e-Learning program.

Thanks to people like Dennis and Hazel there is hope for people who cannot go to a school. In many countries today there is a law for 'right to education' but I think efforts such as these will be even more successful simply because of the reach of the radio. For a hundred years now people in small villages have relied on the radio for news, information and entertainment. Wish this campaign the very best. Tim.

Hi Hazel
I am really interested in horticulture and growing orchids and mushroom farms in south east Asia. Your articles are fascinating, I wish to study horticulture in Philippines (we are from Thailand) and learn more about flowers and flowers farming in Thailand and SE Asia

Thanks Hazel for sharing your info campaign strategies for eLearning. We are a community running a website for teen boarding school, we provide information on some of the best boarding schools in North America and look to make people aware of the benefits and the good effect that such schools can have on teens with teen issues. I completely support your cause, many kids in developing nations cannot afford to go to school and radio can be a very strong means of education for such kids. I hope awareness about your program spread far and many more people can take advantage of this. Best Wishes, Tim

Hi Hazel
Can you give me some information?
We are a grower of flowers in Thailand and we want to work with the local government to expand and improve our landscaping. Soil erosion is a huge problem here in Thailand and we are looking for strategies to improve our farm. We would like to send our students overseas to study and the Philippines is a great country for our students to visit.

E-learning (or sometimes electronic learning or eLearning) is a term which is commonly used, but does not have a common definition. Most frequently it seems to be used for web-based distance education, with no face-to-face interaction. However, also much broader definitions are common. For example, it may include all types of technology-enhanced learning (TEL), where technology is used to support the learning process.

in many contexts, eLearning is self-paced and the learning sessions are available 24x7. Learners are not bound to a specific day/time to physically attend classes. They can also pause learning sessions at their convenience. High-end technology is not necessary for all online courses. Basic internet access, audio, and video capabilities are common requirements.

Radio is a very strong medium and education still needs to reach more lives than it has there are many who still need quality education. The thing about today's education is that tuition fees are very steep and quality education needs to reach people who cannot afford to pay such money.

I hope through the means of this radio channel such things become possible.

Visayas State University's Radio Station is doing a great job in this direction. The idea is appreciable. I hope they succeed over this idea.

Thanks Hazel for sharing such empowering news regarding how you are spreading the word about e learning. E learning is especially relevant in today's times and more so for people like me who are working and also need to upgrade their skills to stay ahead of competition.

Modern day e learning systems allow us to learn as we work, return from home and take an hour or two to learn subject either related to our field of work or something that interest us.

I wish you all the best in your campaign and hopefully I can find something that I can enroll into.

Hi Prime! your taking part in some activities of BCARRD is a good start toward joining the consortium. Most if not all consortia would like agencies doing research and extension to join the network (although you need to meet the criteria to become a member). We are very fortunate in Region 8 because both ViCARP and RRDEN (Regional Research, Development and Extension Network) recognized ATI as lead in extension in the region, thus we coordinate the Techno Gabay Program which is an extension modality. With one's membership to the consortium comes not only responsibilities but also the benefits it offers. Not only that we become member to the consortium, we also have active participation in its different groups. Dennis is member of RMIS (Regional Information Management System) and Lyn in RACO. We also have our representative to the RGAD. These are "add-ons" but the benefit far exceeds our contribution.

Hello Prime! If my memory serves me right, during the last Year-end Review and Planning Workshop where I presented the result of our quick sury on the Assessment on the Participation of ATI in the Techno Gabay Program where the respondents are Techno Gabay Coordinators, the Center Directors shared some strategies as well as mechanisms of participation in the Consortia particularly in the Techno Gabay Program since basically it is an extension modality. Region 8 has a very active involvement because no less than Hazel is the Regional Techno Gabay Coordinator, other Regions are active as Partner Member Agency but of course before becoming a PMA your Center has to be a member of the Consortium first. With all the sharings during the Year End Review, Director Saliot said that all Centers must be a member of the Consortium. Of course this is in preparation to the Project we will be implementing re: Institutionalizing the Techno Gabay particularly Rice in ATI. PCARRD and ATI are talking of insitutionalizing TGP particularly the FITS operations to ATI. We are just waiting for the release of the project funds so that we could start implementing the Project. One of the activities of the Project is the Appreciation Course on TGP. This is intended for ATI network staff, Hazel and the other Centers who are involved in the TGP will play a vital role in this.
I hope your Center will be able to be part of the Consortium particularly in the TGP.

Thanks Ma'am Niet and Ms. Hazel for taking time to reply to my query and for the very informative insights. Our Center Director, Mr. Efren Sabularse, is actively supporting our move to inventory and explore partnership with the various FITS offices in the region towards promoting the eLearning Program, perhaps that would do for a modest start. We salute our very active Techno Gabay Coordinator in Region 8, Ms. Hazel, and the rest of the ATI-RTC 8 knowledge crusaders, particularly Sir Dennis and Ms. Lyn.

Can you give us some pointers about collaborative activities with RACO? We also take part in some BICARD-sponsored events but costs of formally joining the Consortium is rather prohibitive.

Thanks Hazel for sharing your info campaign strategies for eLearning. It's great to know there are people like you and Dennis who  have the amazing enthusiasm towards creating awareness on the Program.  I hope with this campaign , we will be seeing more users and enrollees from Region 8.
