LeMMCAP's 10th National Convention held
LINGAYEN, PANGASINAN - The 10th National Convention cum Seminar-Workshop of the League of Municipal Agricultural Officers, Municipal/City Agriculturists of the Philippines (LeMMCAP) was recently held last March 10-12, 2010 at Consuelo's Hotel, Lingayen, Pangasinan. The theme of the convention is "Sustaining Innovative, Effective and Efficient Agri-Fishery Extension Strategies: Avenues to Mitigate Effects of Climate Change and an Environmentally-Secured Agriculture Landscape."
DA allocates P569 M for El Niño mitigation measures in palay sector

The Deparment of Agriculture (DA) is implementing P569 million worth of intervention measures for the palay sector to offset the effects of the El Niño on rice production this year.
This amount is part of the P1.7 billion that the DA will realiign from its regular budget in 2010 to carry out measures to reduce the expected production losses in the agriculture sector for a possible prolonged El Niño, says Agriculture Undersecretary Bernie Fondevilla.
12th National Mango Congress held
LINGAYEN, PANGASINAN - The 12th National Mango Congress was recently held last February 24-26 in Lingayen, Pangasinan. Keynote speaker of the event was Department of Agriculture Secretary Arthur C. Yap. Below was his message to the delegates as delivered by GMA HVCC Program Coordinator Dr. Rene Rafael C. Espino:

Farm practices that made a young farmer outstanding

At 29, Romeo Yapit is awarded Outstanding Young Farmer of the Philippines. No doubt that' quite an achievement.
This enterprising young farmer of Purac, Sinait, Ilocos Sur started farming in 2002. He had to stop his schooling as he had to support his family for his father had a heart attack. He was a second year mechanical engineering student then.
Loren seeks reforms in extension system

Sen. Loren Legarda has called on the House of Representatives to improve the delivery of agricultural assistance to farmers by advocating comprehensive reforms in the country’s extension system.
Loren, chairman of the Senate committee on agriculture, aired the appeal upon learning that the House will work to pass House Bill 6883 or the Magna Carta of Agriculture and Fishery Development Workers among other priority bills.
ATI launches FCC
The Agricultural Training Institute has launched the Farmers' Contact Center last November 28, 2009 at the Bohol Tropics Resort, Tagbilaran City, Bohol. Agriculture Secretary Arthur C. Yap was the keynote speaker of the event. The launching was attended by officials and extension workers from various government agencies and local government units and farmers.
The Season-Long Pilot School-Children Field Schools

SAN CARLOS CITY, PANGASINAN - The season-long conduct of the School-Children Field Schools (SCFS) at five pilot school-sites in the San Carlos City Schools Division was conducted from June 5 to October 21, 2009. A total of 191 school-children and 33 school teachers were identified to participate and graduate in the pilot program. The five schools were:
